Killer who murdered London gay man must serve full sentence - from Pink News - all the latest gay news from the gay community - Pink News

A man who attacked a south London gay couple, leaving one dead, has failed to get his jail sentence reduced.

David Kilcullen, 47, of Bickley, was jailed for a minimum of 32 years in prison last December for the murder of Gerry Edwards, 59, and the attempted murder of Chris Bevan, 57.

He took a knife to their Bromley home in March 2009, stabbing Mr Edwards to death and severely injuring Mr Bevan.

The judge said Kilcullen had had at least an 'undercurrent of homophobic attitude'.

He appealed to have the sentence reduced but the News Shopper reports this was rejected at the Court of Appeal by Mr Justice Griffith-Williams.

Kilcullen pleaded not guilty to the attack, falsely claiming the pair had sexually assaulted him.

But the jury heard that he had visited their home to steal, expecting Mr Edwards, who was dying of AIDS, to be alone in the house.

Mr Bevan spent months in hospital recovering from a brain injury.
